Project Summary
Lucio B. needed a floating platform inside the Stock Island Marina’s “houseboat section,” subject to strict product rules. The only permitted solution was a cube dock system, so he reached out.
The space was narrow—around 16½ ft long by 8½ ft wide—with limited clearance to neighbors and pilings. We designed and installed a fully modular Cube Dock layout that fit perfectly, met marina requirements, and gave Lucio future expandability without rebuilding.
- Project Type: Gulfstream Dock Modular Platform
- Location: Stock Island Marina Village, Key West, FL
- Boat / Use: Tender / houseboat docking access
Why the Cube Dock System?
- Blow-molded polyethylene cubes: lightweight, strong, and corrosion-proof (no rot, no metal corrosion)
- 20-year structural warranty (as offered by Gulfstream Docks)—gives homeowners confidence in long-term durability
- Modular increments: the 20-inch cube sizing allowed custom layout to the exact 16½ × 8½ footprint
- Ease of installation & reconfiguration: because modules lock together without cutting or special tools
Build & Anchoring Details
- Layout: 16½ ft × 8½ ft (approx. 10 × 5 cubes)
- Anchoring: 2” galvanized pipe mounts aligned at strategic points to allow vertical movement
- Finish: UV-stabilized, textured surfaces for traction
- Loading: designed to hold a tender or light utility loads with margin for safety
Challenges & Solutions
- Tight clearance: The modular design allowed us to fit precisely without overshooting property lines
- Marina rules: Because only cube dock systems were allowed, this solution was the only viable one
- Future expansion: Lucio can add cubes later without disturbing the existing layout
Outcome
Lucio now has a clean, marina-compliant floating tender dock that:
- Fits perfectly in a narrow, regulated slip
- Rises and falls with tide naturally
- Offers low maintenance and high longevity
- Carries the backing of a 20-year warranty
He got exactly what he needed—no overbuild, no wasted space, just dependable performance.
